Joseph J. and Hulda Louisa Jane Linebery Hyman Family

Joseph J. and Hulda Louisa Jane Linebery Oakes Family

Joseph J. Hyman, was born in North Carolina, we think he first married a Margaret Hester and had two sons, Jackson Wordney and Andrew Millage. For unknown reasons that marriage ended and he married Hulda Louisa Jane Linebery Oakes, also born in North Carolina. She was a widow of Eliot H. Oakes. with whom she had five sons, one of which was Charles Franklin Oakes. Joseph J. Hyman, either was living in Attala County, MS at the time or moved there to marry Hulda, as she and her children were living there. Joseph and Hulda had two sons, Warren and Guearney. After her deat, Charles Franklin Oakes, their half brother, cared for them. He then moved to Vicksburg, MS and finally to Issaquena County, MS. In 1900, Andrew M. was living in Attala County, MS with the Whitehead Family. He was a lodger. No Census records on Jackson Wordney until he is married and in Arkansas. Both boys listed their mother as born in Arkansas. On Andrew’s census record in 1900, he said he can not read or write, however he signed his WWI Registration Card. (Note: some dates need correction.)

In the chart below I list Samuel Warren Hyman as a possible brother to Joseph Hyman. The names in that family are highly suggestive of a connection. Samuel built a log cabin on his 182 acre homestead in 1843 in Attala County after moving from North Carolina. His descendants have land deeds signed by President Polk. They still own some of the original land.

Samuel’s family appear in Attala County, Rocky Point, Miss, Township 15 Range 5 in the 1860 Census. They are also in the 1850 Census in Attala County, MS, with 6 children. Louisa is there, but not in 1860, she may be married as she would be 20 in 1860.
In the 1841 Mississippi Census, Sam is in Attala County, MS.
